Feds Repay Broward County For Beach Renourishment

Feds Repay Broward County For Beach Renourishment
Posted August 18th, 2014 @ 7:13pm

The federal government makes its final payment to Broward County, eight years after a beach renourishment project along a seven-mile stretch of shoreline between Port Everglades and Hallandale was completed.

The $8.1 million dollar check is the last portion of the federal government's reimbursement obligation to the county. Broward County hired a contractor to add more sand along that section of the shoreline, which includes John U. Lloyd State Park.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers covered about 60 percent of the cost, with Broward County, the State of Florida, and several municipalities picking up the rest of the tab.
